Impacting Lives

Hey guys,

Keith gave me this idea and I thought it would be a great way to get a much more full and creative look at the discussions we are having at Resonate Youth on a weekly basis. I am posting here the lessons for the first unit of 2011 titled "Why Jesus?"

I am going to leave these posted until December 20th, 2010. During that time, please read over, discuss, respond to, pick apart, etc the lessons. Add new discussion points, examples, activities we could do along with the lessons, songs to listen to or sing or analyze, images or movie clips, et cetera.

I am planning on doing this will all the lessons in the future. I am looking forward to reading what you have to say and discussing these with you! Thanks guys!

Thanks everyone for your input in these lessons.  It has been very helpful for me and it has enriched the lessons for the students as well.

I will have the next set of lessons up Friday afternoon/evening.  I will leave them posted up for another 6 week period.  I am looking forward to hearing what you have to say!

I like what you have done so far.  The lessons have good, practical and relevant questions and illustrations that will really get the kids' attention.

I agree with Kevin.  By establishing Jesus' place in God's overall picture, it will help to establish why He is so important.

With the Christmas lesson specifically, you do a good job of addressing the pressure that Mary and Joseph were under.  Perhaps you could do an ice-breaker asking the kids what they already know about Christmas.  Traditions, the Nativity etc.  It would be interesting to see where they are now and what right/wrong information they may have.

I also think adding some lessons in between His birth and the Greatest Commandment.  His temptation (something all the kids deal with) some of His miracles etc.

im am looking forward to working with these lessons with the students. they know so little about Jesus. maybe one of our next events could be to watch the movie at the end of the lessons or nearer to Easter.

i also think that it would be interesting to look at some of the other characters that Jesus met along the way... maybe the soldier who's son was dying, the woman who had a blood problem, matthew and his party with his friends, etc. just a thought... :)

I think a first thought would be to potentially expand your lessons by two. The first expansion could be a lesson about how Jesus fits into the overall narrative of God. What is the narrative of God? And what was Jesus fulfilling in light of that entire picture. Another lesson could be then what the Jesus crucifixion/resurrection/ascension does for us today... more than just save our sins. Now we get to be ministers and participants in the recreation of what God originally intended.
